Sabe-se que a alimentação tem um papel essencial nas doenças psiquiátricas, cada vez mais identificadas entre a população neste momento atual.
Vários estudos científicos têm demonstrado que a diversidade de bactérias da microbiota intestinal, percorre um caminho “de baixo para cima e de cima para baixo” através do nervo vago, ou seja a saúde do nosso intestino promove a saúde do nosso cérebro 🧠.
Uma dieta que promova mecanismos anti-inflamatórios e antioxidantes parece ser a chave para beneficiar as pessoas em relação a um equilíbrio mental e funções cognitivas e neurológicas. Dessa forma, sendo a alimentação a base de vegetais rica em fitoquímicos e nutrientes que atuam como fonte de prebióticos – “alimento das bactérias intestinais”, as “boas” bactérias vão proliferar e aumentar a produção de neurotransmissores como serotonina e GABA.
Os benefícios relacionados à saúde mental parecem estar associados ao padrão de alimentação e a sua complexidade de nutrientes como fibras, gorduras, vitaminas e minerais. Desta forma, devemos variar a nossa alimentação e manter este padrão alimentar ao longo do tempo.
Se os benefícios são do maior consumo de vegetais e diversidade dos mesmos ou da diminuição do consumo de carne? Ainda não há estudos conclusivos. Por isso, cuidar do nosso estilo de vida: nutrição, sono, atividade física, cuidado com a parte espiritual, as emoções e gestão de stresse podem contribuir muito para a nossa saúde como um todo.
